I do try hard. Some of my fics have been left dangling for long periods of time, though. I'm by no means perfect at it. But I do try. It'll be a little bit before romance happens. They'll have their romantic moments of course but they're going to work on their friendship for a while with emotions building up on both sides, until one or the other of them takes a big leap of faith (ha!) and goes for it.
