If I'd put in the sparring match though, it would have made the chapter far, far too long. Besides, I'm world building, and Torchwood building, and relationship building. That's got to come into it or the story will feel less fully formed. At least for me.
Well, Rose wasn't working for Torchwood during the Cyberwar, so Torchwood wouldn't have that in her file.
I don't know that John wants to set things right so much as he wants (right now) to sleep with her and if she continues to dislike him that will never happen. It's very base for him. Though as he gets to know her he'll develop genuine feelings. Right now he's going on curiosity and sex appeal.
