Fringe Drabble: Friendship

Friendship

They call Astrid when they need help with Walter.

She’s more than a babysitter for the shattered husk of a once monstrous man.

They don’t see him like she does. Brilliant despite his brain injury. Childish and selfish because of it. So full of love for those who look after him, so trusting. So easily wounded with that trust betrayed.

“You’re the only one who can see me.”

She agrees that it’s true, unless he’s talking to the cow again. Sometimes she thinks he’s the only one who can see her. Friendship is such a shallow word for kindred spirits.

A/N:  ladychi gave me the prompt Castle and Alexis and explosion.  First Castle fic from me, another baby.  100 words in Word.  For those not in the know, Richard Castle is a divorced mystery writer who tails a homicide detective (Kate Beckett) that he's half in love with to find inspiration for his books.  He has a young teenage daughter, Alexis.
 

Explosion

Castle is a brave man. In his line of work, he has to be. What he doesn’t expect after running into a burning building and rescuing his…whatever the hell Beckett is to him, is to find his daughter waiting for him quietly in the dark. Alexis is so still, he can barely make out the gleam of her red hair.

He turns on the lamp. The fury on her normally gentle face astounds him. There is another explosion waiting for him tonight just beneath her surface.

“You could have died!”

He holds her and hopes she can forgive his recklessness.
