Will I Ever Be A Gym Rat?
Jul. 25th, 2010 11:14 pmNo, I don't think so. But I went again today and I did okay. I'm going to keep a record of my efforts, which seem a bit laughable at the moment, but still, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will a fit body be. I was althletic once upon a time. Soccer, volleyball, swimming, racketball, skating, and softball. I'm not interested in playing most of those again, except racketball and skating, but I'd like to be as fit as when I was doing them all.
Day One--Random swimming with the kids. I don't think sitting in the hot tub after counts, right?
Day Two--One complete circuit of 22 Cybex machines, 15 reps per machine. Swam six laps. Random swimming.
Day Three--One complete circuit, plus one extra machine, total of 23 machines, 15 reps per machine. Swam seven laps. Random swimming.
My knee is feeling good, so far nothing is putting a strain on it.
My plan is to increase laps by one each day I swim until I'm up to the 100 I used to be able to do. Okay, I might take a bit of a break at 25, 50, and 75, but if each day I do a little more my body will gradually get used to it. Or maybe not. Maybe 2 hours in the pool is more than I want to do at 40. I'm never going to be swim team material again, so maybe I'll just aim for 50 for now. That sounds more logical. I'm also increasing the Cybex machines by one each time until I can do three full circuits like someone who is fit.
Tomorrow will just be cardio, probably the recumbant bike, the rowing machine, and the treadmill or eliptical if it's not too hard on my knee. Plus swimming. It's so darn hot here right now that going to the lake is out of the question because everyone else is there then, but so far the pool hasn't been that crowded during family swim and there is always one lane roped off for lap swimming. Once school starts I can go to lap swim during the day.
Hmm...what kind of icon do I have for gym posts? Oh, I know. Jillian Michaels. That's fitting.
