Well, some of his mooning over her is being caused by the stupidity field. It's taken his normal impulse control and overwhelmed it a bit. Hence the "Your hair's pretty," and the petting. She was able to call him back to a normal state of mind at that point because they were at the edge of the field. Now they're close to the center, he'll be acting a bit like Ten seeing something shiny and deciding to lick it. Or am I mixing ideas there?
