What's are some fairly common but modern British names that someone in their early and middle twenties would have?  Both men and women.  Nothing that is the name of a Doctor Who companion, either, if you can help it.  So if you were born in the middle to late 80's what were the most popular names of the kids you went to school with?  That sort of thing.  I want to name Howard's children because his and Jackie's wedding is coming up shortly.  I can't find national statistics lists that date past the year 2000 for the U.K.

My cousin's daughters are Sophie and Jessica. Most of their friends seem to have very traditional (Emma, Mary Anne, Clare, Kate, Jane) with the occasional older names (Jasper, Oliver, Dixie, Thomas, Dolly) and then some of the many nationalities that live there represented.

Err, when I was at school at school there were loads of boys called Adam, David, James or William and loads of girls called Kirstie, Katie, Sarah or Becky.

And, I'm not sure if this is countrywide or just Portsmouth, but seriously, every other girl I went to school with had the middle name Louise.

This site should help. http://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/popularnames.cgi

All you have to do is choose the year you want to look at. ;)

Thanks, dear. I do like Emma for his daughter. It may be traditional but it's gotten very modern again.

Wow, they're not terribly different from ours for that year. Thanks, that helps bunches.

Well...I have a Rebecca, the dead baby is Adam, I have a James, and I won't do David and Sarah for obvious reasons, but William I do like. Maybe. Thank you on the middle name, too. I may use that.

Cheez! My daughter's name is Hannah and it's been in the top ten for years! Oddly enough, we only met another Hannah when she turned eleven.

My son's name Liam never seems to get on any list, and that's fine by me!

Oh, thanks, love. That is going to come in very handy for the future! I love your icon. She looks so in love with him.
