I was all aboard the good ship Mulder/Scully from the moment I started watching XF (which, admittedly, was the summer after the first season, so I got a whole season of episodes crammed into a short timeframe). I think there was definitely chemistry between them right away (look at the bedroom scene in the very first episode) and the events of the second and third seasons really cemented their relationship. By season four, I agree, they were very much in love with each other, but they both had so many personal issues, plus there was the very real fear of being split up at work (which they'd already experienced at least once already, so they know it sucks!), so I don't think they could act on it. "Unruhe" and "Memento Mori" (omg, how we squeeeeeeeeeeeed over that little forehead kiss! LOL) are amongst my two favorite episodes. I really need to watch these again, it's been ages!
