Britpick Question

Does anyone know if you had Ladies' Aid Societies in the U.K or something similar.? Basically an organization of women that ran charitable events or fundraisers for schools or hospitals.

The Women's Institute (WI) maybe?

Did they exist in 1913?

The Women's Institute would be first in my mind.

The first official ones started around 1915 in Britain to provide food during the War years, but I suppose they would have existed before that albeit without an official title. That is also around the time of the suffragette movement, and they organised to sell goods to raise money for funding. It's not quite the same thing, but women would have been forming community groups for various reasons anyway.
