amberfocus: (Cartoon Rory and Amy)

Minor DW 603 Thoughts

I have two things to say about Curse of the Black Spot.

1.  Eye patch lady is the new crack.  "NOTICE ME!  NOTICE ME!"

2.  No infirmary on the TARDIS with life-saving equipment?  For serious?  There's always been a medical bay.  One had a medical bay.  Also, Doctor, you do have a medical degree.  Granted it's from the 19th century, but come on.

3.  Rory is better than Eleven in every conceivable way.  I'd say except for the fact that Eleven can fly the TARDIS, but he can't really do that either, can he?

4.  Despite all this, I rather enjoyed this episode.  It was straight-forward, Amy kicked butt for her man, Rory was funny and dopey but still marvelous.  You know, I like Matt Smith well enough as a person and even liked his acting in other things, but why couldn't they have cast Arthur Darvill as the Doctor and given him Rory's personality, because he is awesome and I wouldn't sort of not like the Doctor so much as I kind of do at times now?  Or maybe not.  Arthur Darvill playing Eleven as written by the Moff might make me not like him, too.  Never mind.

5.  Because apparently counting to 2 is hard, I like linear storylines.  Don't get me wrong, I like timey whimey, but certain writer's are bad at it and make it make absolutely no sense.  (I'm looking at you SM).  This was a refreshing change.

XDXDXD I KNOW, right? He has a swimming pool but no med bay? Come on!

My thoughts exactly.

That is EXACTLY what was running through my mind in that scene.

TOTALLY nonsensical.

This ep

Additionally annoying: the Doctor doesn't have an AED? They sell them on Amazon.
Also, I teach CPR and her numbers weren't current...

LOL I agree with basically all of this. I also thought that it was silly to have Rory be all "Amy-mon, I CHOOSE YOU because I know you'll never give up!" and then she... gives up... and starts crying and he magically comes back 30 seconds after thanks to the power of her phoenix tears. I think that scene would've made a lot more sense with the previous scene if it had been more like, Amy tries for a while, nothing happens, ~everything looks bleak~ so the Doctor tries to be like "Amy, you have to stop, it's too late" or w/e and Amy, you know, actually doesn't give up and it is her persistence that saves him.

I actually liked this episode, more than apparently most people, possibly because it was a relief to have an episode that was linear and easy to follow and where the plotholes were things like "LOLWUT ship within a ship with a mermaid nurse?" and not stuff like "I literally have no idea what just happened".

Amy-mon, I CHOOSE YOU because I know you'll never give up!" and then she... gives up..

I KNOW LOL!!! This reminded me of Titanic in a way, where Rose is like "I'll never let go, Jack!" and then 30 seconds later she lets go XD

(Edited bc I can't spell)

Yeah it was really bizarre, like Thompson had forgotten what he'd written in the previous scene. LOL IDEK.

I sense this is going to be one of those episodes that much of fandom hates forever because it's ~so bad~ but I am always kind of fond of because it is bad in a way I can tolerate and not, like, Cold Blood-bad.

I know, me too! I liked it lol!!! The only thing that bugged me was the disappearing pirate with the weird eyebrows (the one that Toby cut). He was in the magazine with Amy, Rory and Toby ... and then he disappeared with no further mention made lol. I kept expecting him to show back up again and contribute to the plot, but I think the editors just forgot about him XD

OMG YES my friend and I noticed that, but we were watching on Space so we ended up wondering if the Canadian station DOES cut scenes. I guess the answer is "no, but the editors do".

But seriously, things like "LOL DISAPPEARING EXTRA" are at this point charming to me. It takes me back to a simpler time before 'timey-wimey' was the main mode of storytelling.

I really liked it too! Eleven breathing on the siren charm had me LOL'ing XD The one really confusing thing to me was that the pirate that Toby cuts with the knife as they are hiding in the magazine-room ... well, he disappears lol!

Noticed that too didn't you? That has to be on purpose, it just has to...Or it's is the biggest plot gaff since Ritchie Cunningham's brother went upstairs on Happy Days and never came back.

I have to say I agree with you on the no med bay comment, I was thinking the same thing. Why did Amy have to save him?? Doesn't the doctor have all the best and advance medical technology? WTF!!!!

Moffet is killing me with the lack of continuity or respect for the mythos of this legacy show he's inherited. And I am so tired of Eleven being a dumbass, Amy Pond has to be the biggest Mary Sue in all creation.

Love Rory, wish Rory could move to Pete's World fall in love with alternate Donna Noble (she's bit of a courgar, but he likes red heads) and have adventures with Ten II and Rose in the new baby Tardis.

bugging me

THAT"S what was bugging me about that ep... the lack of med bay. Thanks. Also am I the only one who likes Amy more after this episode?? Cause I do (I think it's cause she was a BAMF).

Oh and hello by the way! love your work so you'll probably be hearing more from me.

Hello. *waves* Welcome. Actually I've liked Amy more and more with each episode. I feel like this year she is finally getting some actual character development.

so true... I love character development and compared to past companions, Amy just wasn't getting it till recently.
