30 Day Love Meme

Day 08:  The pairing with the most baggage:  Ten2 and Rose.

Ten2 has all of the Doctor's memories, including all the ones of pushing one Rose Tyler as far away from him as he can without losing her completely.  Now, from all appearances he's at least gotten over most of that, what with the snogging the hell out of her on that beach and the telling her he loves her.  (You'll never convince me that's not what was said, and certain show runners confirmed it).  But...he's still going to have to live with the idea that Rose might consider him a consolation prize.  He has to deal with the fact that he's a clone, which I don't think can be the easiest of things, that he's no longer fully Time Lord so can't risk his life in the same way, that he only has this one life left and he has to be so careful with it if he does want to live it out with Rose.  And there's the aging.  Ten was quite vain about his pretty boy status methinks, so Ten2 will have to cope with wrinkles and gray hairs and sagging body parts.  He will also have to deal with no longer being the highest authority.  And he will have to deal with his own self thinking he's dangerous and isn't safe to be let loose on the prime universe and thinking that he needs to be fixed.  And the abandoment issue of course.

Rose will have to deal with the fact that the Doctor dumped her in another universe with no way out with a duplicate of himself.  He didn't say good-bye.  He didn't say I love you.  He took away her choices.  It's enough to make her think he never loved her at all, that she's just a yo-yo that keeps coming back and he finally found a way to make her stay put.  And yet she still has a Doctor, one who wants to be with her.  Will he be enough?  Will she be able to accept him?  Will she take out Ten's choices on Ten2?  Will she be able to cope with the differences, of having random Donnaisms popping up, of Ten2 being full of blood and anger and revenge and more moody like Nine was?  Who will have the greater mood swings, Rose or Ten2?

So, yes, lots and lots of baggage here, but I think they overcame it in the end.  Because that kiss on the beach didn't come out of nowhere and the feelings are there and they shall remain.  The Doctor and Rose will go on.  They will get past their doubts and snog and shag and live happily ever after in their newly grown TARDIS (with or without babies depending on your preference!).

This, so much. This.

I am betting that at first, Rose would have quite a few abandonment issues and be running over and over again in her mind every time Nine/Ten sent her away .... and the fact that she searched for him and risked her life looking for him -- did he even want her back in the first place, or miss her? (Obviously the answer is YES!!!!!!!!, but how's she supposed to know that)?

(You'll never convince me that's not what was said, and certain show runners confirmed it).

Exactly. I don't see how anyone can argue differently. Julie Gardner practically ended her sentence with "DUH!" when she said in the Confidential that "of course he said I love you".

With that, you summed up why I read fanfic. I devour Pete's World fics. There's so much possibility there. And I want to know.

I agree completely with everything you've said here. Especially the part about what Ten2 whispers to Rose, we don't have to hear the "I love you" to know he said it. Ten was obviously going to say it on Doomsday, so that he loves Rose was never the issue. Now, the thing is the bucketful of issues the Time Lord has, the long list of "Reasons To Deny Himself Rose's Love and His Opportunity to Allow Himself to Love Her", which, in a way, as paradoxically as it sounds, proves he loves her, but that he feels he doesn't deserve her.

I believe Ten2 and Rose will overcome their issues in the end, but it won't be an easy road. And mirroring [livejournal.com profile] annissag's comment, that is one of the reasons why I started to read fan fic, and then, very recently, write it. The potential to explore the relationship between the Doctor (Nine/Ten/Ten2) and Rose Tyler is endless, and their story lives on for as long as we still remember it.

But are they going to have a lot of stuff to deal with? Oh yes. Legendary issues, but, well, rather suitable for a couple who is definitely The Stuff of Legend. Even their issues are uncommon.

P.S. - I'm still denying that River Song will ever be as important to the Doctor as Rose, no matter what she thinks she knows.

Their baggage is probably what makes them so interesting to me, and hence what keeps me reading and writing fic about them, I won't lie.

lol I know people deny this, but what exactly do they think he said that provoked such a response from her?

Totally agree with all you've said hon. they certainly do have a mountain to overcome, but then when didn't they in one way or another? I wouldn't expect their relationship to simple work immediately, there's too much gone before.

As for what he whispered in her ear, I've never understood how anyone could argue that he said anything else, especially since, as you say, it's been confirmed by those running the show.

It's probably asking too much to wish for a Pete's World bank holiday special of some kind, but do you know what I would love to see? Some form of the Doctor Who novels, featuring Ten2 and Rose in the Parallel Universe. I know that, according to the creators, the Doctor/Rose story is complete, but still! How amazing would it be to have something semi-canonical to get us through? Not counting on anything but still!

Hubby and I had this talk recently. I like the fact that RTD says that they're happy, but that doesn't take into account how long it took them to get there! Like so many others have said, THIS IS A HUGE FANFIC ADDICTION FOR ME! MY HOMEWORK, SHE SUFFERS!
