amberfocus: (Ten Rose in Green bent down)

Time Eternal thoughts

You know how everyone's always worried about that if Ten ever had kids with Rose, and he was responsible for being in charge of them or one of them, he'd probably forget about them or misplace them or simply lose them because he saw something shiny and went to look at it?  Well, I've been thinking about that a lot.  And I've gotten an idea for a Time Eternal story.  This one would be time-jumped to when Cassi is six and Dare is eight.  So I'm writing the idea down now so I don't forget it.

Everyone always wants to know why the relationship between Cassi and the Doctor is so strained when she's an older teen and an adult.  Aside from the fact that the child regenerated before she was born and was in a chaotic environment during the first several hours before Rose was moved into the Zero Room until the fetal regeneration sickness was over and that skewed her personality.  Of course, there's lots of little reasons over time, but the big one was always how the Doctor stood between her and Daniel Harper and hurt Cassi's TARDIS (on accident) trying to prevent an elopement.

So I thought, why not start building up the why, starting with Ten taking Cassi out for the day because Rose thinks they need daddy/daughter time and Cassi not wanting to go because she doesn't want daddy/daughter time she wants to stay with Dare because he always pays attention to her, but everyone's insisting, and then the Doctor loses Cassi on an alien planet.  Completely and utterly loses her.  She doesn't wander off, she doesn't do anything wrong.  One minute her father is standing next to her, and the next minute he's gone.

   Cassi Tyler at 6

And she waits for him in one place like she's been taught by her mum for two hours before thinking she sees Donna and dashing off after the woman.  Who isn't Donna. (Because it doesn't matter how many anvils they drop on her head in canon, in my universe Donna stays with them for as long as I want her there.  {And Owen is still alive, so there.})  But the woman is rather sympathetic to the little girl and rather lonely herself...

I've got even more ideas for the story than that, but I don't want to spoil it too much.  Just wanted to get the basic gist down before I let it fade, lost in the random roar of plot bunnies.

Sounds wonderful! It would be great to get to know Cassi better! She is a fascinating character. I like keeping Donna alive & around too; if only that would happen in canon! Really the ideal auntie for any Ten/Rose offspring!

Well, bits of Cassi kind of weave through all of the Time Eternal series and all of the Jack's Path series. I've never done a story with her as the sole focus, but shall do relatively soon.

Also: photo of Cassi at age 6 is perfect!

Isn't it? Found a good one for her at age 10 and age 15, too. And older.

Ooh, that sounds fantastic!

Thanks.

It sounds good, but maybe you ought to explore why Cassie wants to be with Dare rather than her father? Having a daughter of 7 who worships the ground her father walks on, and would rather do anything than spend time with her older brother (LOL!), who she does love btw, I can sort of imagine that Cassie would need to have lots of issues with her father for that to happen.

Now being a person who definitely gets distracted by sparkly things (I have ADD and Aspergers syndrome; google if you will) I can sort of identify with the distraction thing, men with ADD are far worse than women for that; sorry guys but it is true...

Another thing, I hope you dont mind me saying, but I would love for you to explore more the relationship Donna has with the kids. I feel that there is so much more there to tell even if its just a oneshot.

I think you have set yourself up, (for good or bad!) an opportunity to really explore the relationships here. Your series whilst damn good, has the potential to be very in depth and exploratory.

You certainly have it in you to do that.

Oh, definitely. There will definitely be time spent explaining the attachment Dare and Cassi have for each other.

I'll have to think about Donna and her relationship with the kids. I really haven't given it too much thought yet, since Dare's so young and Cassi's not born, but she is Dare's bond mother and she will be Cassi's, too, so yeah, I'll have to cover some of that, too. I can see at least a sweet one-shot with her holding Dare and thinking about everything the child means, not just to her but to Rose and the Doctor.

Yeah a one shot with Dare and Donna, that sounds lovely. You know I can also see the Doctor and Rose saying something along the lines of 'you just wait until Aunt Donna gets home!' when the kids are naughty! I think that would terrify me!

Yup, I guess that does count as the Doctor doing something incredibly stupid. I hope though that later on in Cassi's life that the Doctor really stands up and becomes the father she needs. I agree with Solarflar3- A fic with Donna and the kids would be awesome. The BBC should hire you to write the episodes for Doctor Who, I love your universe almost more than the real one.

I think their relationship will always be a bit stilted, but not as bad as it is when we first meet Cassi as an adult in Post Pomp. The Doctor does learn a little from that meeting and tries not to make the same mistakes. And some stuff gets worked out in Andromeda Rising, too.

That sounds great. I look forward to reading that.

Thanks.

If your thinking of future stories I would to see a story with Cassi and an older Doctor where he has a go at trying to patch things up with her. Because while he can be down right dim for such a brillant man I do think he really does care for all of his family. And dispite the events that happen to cause stress between them I think he would want her to know that he loves her. Seeing the devision between them is so sad.

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
There is some of that in Andromeda Rising and will be quite a bit more. It's only half written, though. He does love her no matter how difficult their relationship is. And she loves him, too. It's just not ever going to be easy for them. But it will be better.

I heartily agree with solarflar3, who said, "I think you have set yourself up, (for good or bad!) an opportunity to really explore the relationships here. Your series whilst damn good, has the potential to be very in depth and exploratory. You certainly have it in you to do that."

Hear, hear! Just remember, your stories (in my mind, for sure) ARE *canon*!

*Hugs ... and TARDIS cookies!*
