FIL Update and Story Updates

FIL got taken out of ICU and moved to the regular part of the hospital today.  He's down to 4 IV's now.  The procedure last night drained 2 liters of fluid from his lungs.  2 liters!  I thought my husband was mistaken when he told me a liter from each lung, figured he had to mean just one liter, but when I talked to my MIL today she confirmed it was 2.  I knew he looked puffy when I saw him, but that's crazy.  They still don't know if he'll be able to keep the kidney, but so far it's staying put so that's something.

As for my stories, I worked on several of them today.  I added 200 more words to chapter 30 of Vortex.  I wish that one weren't being so stubborn, I want to finish it, but it is resisting rather mightily.  I wrote about 500 words on You're What? and a smut scene for Hunger Moon that isn't in the next chapter, but it wanted to be written.  And 700 words on Pushing the Boundaries, which is the Ten/Donna POV fic of what happens in chapter one of The Boundaries of Consent.  The bunnies were a little impatient, but it's going to be a while for that one.  It's not my primary focus and it's coming in fits and starts anyway.

I may or may not get the next chapter of You're What? back from my beta tonight.  JeopardyFriendly is officially over the stomach virus but she's ramping up slowly.  Least she has a couple days before summer session at the university starts.

Twenty more days until the kids go to camp.  It's only for a week.  That's all we could afford this year, since we're saving up to go to Disneyland.  This is the only camp that offered 3rd-8th grades the same week.  Not that they'll be in the same program, they'll just be on the same grounds.  Next year they'll be able to go at the same time, too, but then after that Rose will be going into high school (eep!), and this camp doesn't go up that high.  A lot of the camps will do 3rd-5th one week and 6th-8th another week and that does me no good if I want them off at the same time.

If Tobias likes this camp, I can send him to it in two years and Rose to a different one that takes place at the same time, I suppose.  He has to be going into 4th grade to attend any of the 8 weeks offered, going into 3rd he only has the choice of two weeks.  It's a pain.  It feels so young for him to be going to camp, but I started the year before 3rd grade and I loved it, so I suppose it'll be okay.  I think I still think of him as my baby, and he's nowhere near as mature as his sister, or I, was at this age.  But he makes friends easily so, yeah, he'll be fine.

Yay for moving out of the ICU - he'll be SO much more comfortable in the regular part of the hospital. Which granted doesn't say much, but it's still better for resting.

I forgot that camp doesn't stay camp for high schoolers. But if she likes it, couldn't she be a camp counselor? Or do they not do that anymore? (It being...oh, jeez, a good fifteen years since I went to camp. Closer to twenty, come to think of it...egad, now I feel old.)

Good to hear they got the fluid out; I hope they can save the kidney. Thank you very much for updating us!

And thank you for the fic news too! I am always excited to hear the coming attractions!!!! :)

Hang in there. We are all hoping your FIL gets better .

Good luck with your FIL. I'll bet he's glad to be out of ICU, at least. My mom spends a lot of time in hospital and hates ICU because there's no bathrooms and no privacy. Really hope they can save the kidney - mom's on dialysis so I know a bit about kidney probs.

Yay for camp! Don't know what I'd do without it! And I hope the Disneyland trip comes off. I've never been there, but we live close to DisneyWORLD which I guess is about the same thing.

Can't wait for more fic but obviously family comes first.

BTW, quick question. I know you've been reposting the Time Eternal stories here on your LJ. Is there any difference from what's on Teaspoon?

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2008-06-18 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. Disneyworld has a lot more stuff. Disneyland is basically just the Magic Kingdom portion of Disneyworld. And one day we might actually make it there, too.

Yeah, there are changes in the series. It's pretty minor. A lot of it was cleaned up grammar and punctuation, because I didn't beta any of Time Eternal until halfway through YRWYS, and I gave the Doctor a name other than Theta Sigma. I've added lines here and there to increase humor or enhance sensuality. But there's no big overhaul like I did with Take It Back. I will eventually be editing Teaspoon to match what I have here.

If you do, let me know!! I'll show you the TARDIS in the Peter Pan ride! And you know, Disneyland has the whole Calif Adventure thing, which we don't have here in Florida! I'd like to visit there one of these years. ;-)

BTW, they have all sorts of discounts for the FL parks and hotels and surrounding attractions. You might want to check - you can often save a heck of a lot of money. We've got lots of tricks to save money in Orlando because even though we live fairly close (3 hours away) and can drive up, it's still EXPENSIVE!

I asked about the changes because I've got the stories on my pda for off-line reading. I got them off teaspoon and was wondering if I should re-do the file with the new version from your LJ. I think I will make the effort when I've got a bit of free time (which should be...oooh... let me think... 202O? 2021? When my youngest starts college... maybe).

Ditto with the congrats regarding your FIL slowly improving!

Hooray for camp!! My folks couldn't afford camp for 5 (yep; five of us!) kids, so they shipped us off in batches to stay with relatives for a few days. Actually, it was kinda fun!

Disneyland will be a blast. Haven't gone in several years, but I used to go a couple times a year. It IS expensive, isn't it? Do you have a discount card? The auto club also has a special deal, I believe.

Thanks for the fic update, too. Can't believe you're still whipping out the words, with all the pressure you've been under. Hang in there, we're all rooting for you!

*Hugs*

Glad to hear that your FIL is getting better. I know the lung draining thing sounds really scary, but my granny had to have it done three or four times recently (she's had cancer and it makes her lungs fill up) and it's amazing how she's bouncing back.

>The procedure last night drained 2 liters of fluid from his lungs.<

I know it sounds crazy! It was about the same amount of fluid they drained from the lungs of my grandfather, when he was in hospital several years ago.
I hope your FIL gets better soon. All my best to you!
