Not So Secret Identity (1/1)--for Catyuy

Title:  Not So Secret Identity
Author:  Amberfocus
Characters/Pairings:  Ten2/Rose
Genre:  Fluff, Romance
Rating:  PG for innuendo
Beta:  Amyo67
Summary:  The merits of Spiderman versus Superman are discussed.
A/N:  This is my second to last auction ficlet for those who bid in the Support Stacie auction but didn't win.  Catyuy's prompt is at the end.  Just some random, sweet and fluffy silliness.

Not So Secret Identity

“Don’t turn around.” Rose freezes at the voice behind her, every one of her senses springing onto high alert.   There is no time to go for her weapon, though every bit of her training is urging her to grab it, whirl around and take her chances at the unseen enemy in the dark. Her mind is racing as she tries to figure out what enemy would dare try to breach the security of her father’s home beneath the window of her little brother. Tony! No, she has to face this. If someone’s gone after Tony and she lets them go she’ll never forgive herself.

She pulls her weapon and turns in one smooth motion and stops dead as she realizes that there is a person hanging from the tree behind her. A very familiar person. “Rooooose,” whines the voice. “This is embarrassing. I told you not to turn around.”

“Probably not the best order to give an armed Torchwood operative, Doctor.” She reaches into her pocket with her free hand and pulls out her mini-torch, shining it on the figure suspended from the tree.

“You can put the weapon away,” he says dryly, squinting his eyes in the harsh light from her torch.

“I wouldn’t have pulled it if you hadn’t scared the daylights out of me. Now, do you care to tell me what you’re doing hanging upside down from a tree outside my little brother’s window in the middle of the night?” she demands putting her gun back in her holster.

“It’s Tony’s fault,” he says grudgingly.

“How is this, any of this, my four-year-old brother’s fault?” she asks arching her eyebrows.

“He said that Spiderman was better than Superman.”

Rose snorts. “And I’m sure that that all leads to something that will make some kind of sense in that strange Time Lord mind of yours that led to you being stuck like you are.”

“Of course,” he says with great dignity.

“I’ll get a knife and cut you down.”

“Don’t you even want to know why Superman is better than Spiderman?” he asks.

Rose sighs. “Not particularly.”

“But Rooooose—.”

“Fine,” she cuts him off. She’s too tired and he’s obviously working up to a full on whinge. “Why is Superman better than Spiderman?”

“Because he’s from a great and powerful planet that blew up. He lost everything and he came to Earth and adopted it as his second home. He made a new family and he got to run around with super powers saving the universe and nothing could stop him, not even the—not even Lex Luthor and—.”

“Kryptonite,” Rose says abruptly. “And Daleks.”

“Rose,” he says with a startled gasp.

You are not Superman, Doctor. You never were. Anyway, Tony’s right. Spiderman is better. He’s a genetically modified human being who was created through no act of his own. He’s not all powerful. He has to depend on his wits to keep him alive and his innate sense of justice. He knows that with great power comes great responsibility and he does not just sweep in to save the day and then fly away and leave the cleaning up to someone else. He makes sure the job is fully done. If you, this you, should identify with anyone, it’s Spiderman. And Spiderman is my favorite,” she tells him.

She steps closer to him and takes his face in her hands. “Besides, Superman always has to give up the girl and Spiderman gets to do this.” She leans forward and kisses him. It feels weird with his face upside down like this, but it’s interesting and she’s always wanted to do it ever since she saw it in the first Spiderman movie. By the time she’s done kissing him he’s making strange little whimpering sounds in the back of his throat.

“Now shall I cut you down?” she asks.

“The sonic screwdriver is in my right trouser pocket,” he says. Rose slides her hand up his torso and into his trousers. “Erm…Rose, I think you may be very well aware of the fact that that’s – that’s – that’s not my pocket, but I feel I should, oh my, point it out to you in case…you know in case you were simply – simply off course and needed your, erm, navigation corrected.”

“Nope. My navigation’s just fine and you’re right. That’s not your pocket. And this isn’t your sonic screwdriver either,” she says wickedly before withdrawing her hand and putting it in his pocket and retrieving the proper tool. “Setting?” she asks.

“Five,” he answers shakily.

“Five? It’s always 1,532 or something,” she mutters as she sets the device.

“1,532? Don’t be silly. Why would you need to bake a single chocolate chip cookie right now?” he asks.

Rose laughs. “Seriously?” He winks at her. She aims the sonic screwdriver up at the rope and it slowly cuts through it. A moment later he falls towards the ground, neatly somersaulting onto his feet as he impacts.

“All right, Peter Parker, let’s get you and your secret identity to bed.”

“Is Peter Parker a new nickname for my—.”

“No, Doctor,” she says in exasperation. “It’s Spiderman’s real identity.” She ushers him into the house and up to their bedroom. They’re staying here temporarily while their new house is being painted. “You going to tell me what you were doing up in a tree outside Tony’s window in the first place?

“No,” he says. He looks a bit guilty but she decides to let it go. As they slip into bed he asks, “So does Peter Parker wear brainy specs? Because Clark Kent wears brainy specs. And he can fly. And he can write a mean article—.”

“Peter’s a photographer and a picture is worth a thousand words.”

“But—.” She shuts him up with a kiss then breaks away with a huge yawn.

“You’re better than any superhero anyway,” she says snuggling into his shoulder and nestling her head in the crook of his arm.

“How’s that then?”

“Because you’re my hero just the way you are.”

Prompt was:  10/Rose, established relationship.
The Doctor steps in a trap in the woods and is dangling by his feet.
Rose has to let him down but she wants to try to do the kiss from Spiderman 1 first.

They really are! *grins*

Adorable and hilarious.

Thank you.

[identity profile] catyuy.livejournal.com 2009-06-02 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
AW!!!!!
This is much better than my original idea.
I love how you compare Ten I to Superman and Ten II to Spiderman.

I LOVE YOU!!!!!! *GLOMP*

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I struggled for a long time with the original prompts and then I thought if I just changed it to Ten2 that it would work and then I got the idea to compare them and the rest of it just really flowed out. And I'm very glad you like it.

Glee. This was so adorable, made me smile.
And Rose is right - Spiderman's better. :-D
Loved it!

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I think Rose definitely knows what she's talking about.

*squishes them*

This is so adorable!! The parallels between Superman and Spiderman and Ten and Ten II is startling really.

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
And honestly that wasn't what I was setting out to write at all. It just sort of fell into place and I really liked the parallels because it just works. Thank you.

Ok....everyone together now.....

Awwwwwwwwww.....

*squishes the cuteness*

I'm with the Doctor on this one. Is Spider-Man's very existence the exception to the rule that absolute power corrupts absolutely? I think not. (Actually I think that has something to do with Kryptonian neurology, but that's beside the point.) And brainy specs!

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs* Well, we're all allowed to have our favorite superheroes. Superman actually is mine, but it wouldn't have worked for this story.

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
*grins*

[identity profile] englshangel.livejournal.com 2009-06-02 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Very cute and also nice catch on the Superman/Spiderman parallels!

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. It didn't start out like that but it sure went that direction once I started writing so I went with it.

[identity profile] electrictoes.livejournal.com 2009-06-02 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, I love this so hard.

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, hon.

Awwwww!!! This is so very adorable, and sums up their relationship so well. =D

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. It sort of does.

[identity profile] kb91.livejournal.com 2009-06-02 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I never would have come up with the comparisons to Superman and Spiderman. Cute, sweet, and very clever! :)

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I didn't actually mean to, but once it got going the story just sort of went there on it's own. *smiles*

[identity profile] michellemtsu.livejournal.com 2009-06-02 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor, Superman AND Spiderman all at the same time? My geeky heart may explode!

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. It seems to have gotten that reaction from a lot of people.

[identity profile] roxyk630.livejournal.com 2009-06-02 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
*gigglesnort* Spiderman was always my favorite. <3 I've had a crush on PP since I was about nine. XD;;;

VERY cute. And totally agree with Rose. PP is better! :D

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
*grins* Thank you. Rose certainly knows what she thinks is better and she's quite happy with it.

[identity profile] nani1986.livejournal.com 2009-06-02 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Watching that scene on Spiderman 1 will NEVER BE THE SAME.

You win the internet and a Doctor plushie!

Well done!

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, thank you. *cuddles Doctor plushie*

[identity profile] emerald-soleil.livejournal.com 2009-06-02 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
This was awesomeness.

Wouldn't mind seeing the Doctor in a Spiderman suit....*drool*

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I thought about him in the Spiderman suit, because honestly he is skinny enough to pull it off. I may revisit the theme around Halloween time.

<3

[identity profile] bonhomie-13.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww ... the Doctor and Spiderman - an instant fav. :D

Just brilliant. May there be a follow up to this?

<3 love <3

Re: <3

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much. Anything is possible. I may do something Spiderman related around Halloween.

[identity profile] fishface44.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
*sigh* Very, very sweet!

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

[identity profile] jellybean728.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
'kay, loved the whole thing, really, the comparisons are brilliant but this :

“1,532? Don’t be silly. Why would you need to bake a single chocolate chip cookie right now?” he asks.

This kills me. Why on Earth or Pete's World would the Doctor need to bake a single chocolate cookie right now? It's so Doctor!!!

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you know, those emergencies when you really just can't eat another bite of raw dough and you don't have an oven handy. I could easily see the Doctor being able to zap some dough and presto, instant cookie! Although I suppose I should have said biscuit. Well, maybe in Pete's world they call them cookies in England, right?

[identity profile] angel932.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Is Peter Parker a new nickname for my—.”

I just spit diet coke all over my keyboard!!

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. Sorry.

[identity profile] kholly.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I love where you went with that prompt.

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. *smiles*

[identity profile] silencing.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Rose is a saucy minx ain't she?

D'aww, this was really sweet. I loved the comparisons

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, very, very saucy, but also slightly tired and exasperated. *grins* Thank you.

[identity profile] helygen.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
This is adorable, and I love the parallels drawn between Superman/Spiderman and the two versions of the Doctor. Nicely done!

[identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you.
