Star Sapphire

Because azriona asked if they really exist, I thought I'd post a picture of a polished uncut star sapphire, and the ring I based Rose's wedding ring off of in You're What?  as well.

I love star sapphires! The first ring that my father ever bought my mother was a star sapphire. It was always my favourite of hers, and she gifted me with that ring for my 20th birthday (Blimey! Have I really had that ring just a few months shy of 8 years?!).

Of course, I wouldn't mind getting another one, especially if it meant I got Nine too. ;0)

Ooh, you should post a photo of yours. I'd love to see it.

I was all ready to say "Ask and ye shall receive", but then I tried to take a picture. *pouts* My camera refused to cooperate.

I can describe it though. It's a small star sapphire in a white gold band. There are four prongs, almost perfectly lined up with the points in the star. It's a tall prong setting - the band of the ring twists under the stone to create the cradle that holds the stone (the two prongs that are part of the "right" branch of the band hold the left side of the stone, and vice versa). It's a very simple, very pretty ring.

If I'm feeling ambitious tomorrow I'll try again to take a picture of it - or at least poke around online a bit more to find a picture of the setting.
