THANK YOU for mentioning your irritation with the food thing, both with the stupidity of the gag and the wastefulness. Man, that got on my nerves by the time they were done with it. I know that some people might think that the physicality of the gag hearkens back to Old Who in a good way, but I just found it annoying.

As to the callbacks/Ten-ness...well, I could see it being an equal problem if they didn't have any of that, you know? If they tried to pretend that the DT era had never happened, the show would just feel wrong; he left a pretty impressive pair of shoes to fill. Trying to get a crowbar separation between the two from moment one might have felt artificial. But I do agree that they need to work to distinguish Ten and Eleven more clearly in future episodes. Ever since the initial MS photos came out, I've been kind of surprised that they didn't do more work to distinguish them visually right out of the gate, as the big-haired geek chic thing only heightens the similar build of the actors. So they really have to make it happen in the writing.

I definitely agree on the Amy love...I was fully prepared to hate her character, but she seemed to blend the best qualities of Rose, Martha, and Donna while still being her own person. (Also, Karen Gillan did a stunning job with her, and was absolutely gorgeous while doing it. I'm just happy that DW still has someone sexy, skinny, and Scottish on the show!)
