Thank you. I felt like with this change in their relationship and his promising to try to make peace with her mother, that he wouldn't try to manipulate her like that. I think he manipulated her in the series because he was desperate to keep her with him and he was afraid if she spent too much time with her mum or with Mickey, she'd want to stay home. Here, with them becoming lovers, he's more secure in the fact that Rose wants to stay with him, so he can let his guard down enough to try to fix things with Jackie for Rose's sake.
