Does anyone know if you had Ladies' Aid Societies in the U.K or something similar.? Basically an organization of women that ran charitable events or fundraisers for schools or hospitals.

What would you have called a store that sold dry goods in the 1910's? Here it would be the mercantile or simply the dry goods store. Is it the same in the U.K. or does it have some other name?

Back in the olden days in America, the Sears Roebuck catalogue was commonly used as toilet paper in the outhouse. Was there a comparable thing used in the U.K. for the same purpose?

What do you call Labor and Delivery at the hospitals in the UK? Same thing or is it different? Since I know ER for us equals A&E for you, I thought L&D might be a different term as well.

Closet=wardrobe when you are talking about the place in the bedroom to hang up your clothes and closet=cupboard when you are keeping your supplies or brooms there, but what about a smaller compartment in the hallway meant for hanging up coats and keeping your winter boots in? Is that also referred to as a wardrobe or cupboard? Because it feels weird to type he retrieved his jacket from the hall cupboard, or he retrieved his coat from the hall wardrobe. About ready just to use a coat rack or hooks by the front door or something.

What's the deal on tipping?  Do you tip the bartender?  Or is tipping just a no go in Britain (I think I read that somewhere)?

What do you call the place you take your car to get it fixed?  Here it's either taking it to the mechanic's or to the garage.  Do you have a different word for it or is it the same?

What do you call coveralls, the clothes workmen wear over their regular clothes to protect them?  The outfit the weevils would wear on Torchwood?

Does the U.K. have a space agency or program like we have NASA?  If so, what is it called?

Also, what was the name of the UK in Pete's World?  I'm thinking it was the Republic of Great Britain, but I can't remember and I can't find what my daughter did with series 2.
